I was part of this Academy in 2005 to 2009. Derek was a great coach and Mentor. He assisted our High School Team at Philip Pocock with Drills and Practice to help us compete in Duffein Peel, we made it to finals. Many of my class mates and family members continued with OCA, a few played for Team Canada and some got a Full Ride Scholarship the the UK. As a Coach and former World Cricketer himself, Derek has always helped pave the way for many of us. His teachings about skills, drills, techniques, character and persistence made a difference in my life as well as many others. If you're looking for a an Academy or a Coach that has mentored his students from beginner to Pro - This is the place! Play on!
Don’t Waste Your Time or Money Here Step into this place and you’re stepping into disappointment. If you’re serious about improving your cricket skills or your child’s safety, stay far away. There is no organized coaching, no real training structure, and no professionalism sessions are run like casual gully cricket. Facilities are poor, and the main focus seems to be getting your money, not your development. They committed to weekly matches but only managed to organize 5–6 in total, constantly cancelling due to rain and promising to reschedule which never happened. Practices were cancelled just as often, with no proper follow-up. Absolutely no real coaching happens here it’s just a paid playground. Don’t fall for their fake professionalism; it’s all show and no substance. Save yourself the money, time, and frustration find a real academy that actually delivers on its promises.
This review is for Adult (Beginner program) As an adult, you’re better off with joining a Local team in your neighbourhood/city. Not sure about the advance level, but beginner is not worth the money. They advertise as if they would be coaching but it is pretty much friendly matches once a week. Zero professionalism and commitment. Never received the uniform. Called multiple times but they never responded. Summer program was ended in Aug when it was supposed to be ending in early October. Useless captain, all of the matches were friendly (beginner level) but they rather gave chances to players who were already experienced plus they were playing on the weekends. Overall - for a Beginner it’s a waste of money and time, again you’re better off with joining a local team as it’s much more cheaper and you get more chances. They have Part time and Full-time, take my advice never go for Full-Time, as its 3x more money but the same thing. Anyhow stay away if you can! P.S It might be good for kids but for ADULT - Beginner BIG NO! ?
Please don’t invest time and money on this academy, people are in responsive and every time they cancel the outdoor classes they don’t maintain decorum and no schedule. They don’t even refund the money if we are not satisfied with the services. Waste of money and your child’s time
OCA is the premier cricket academy in the country. When my son joined, he had no interest in cricket, but within a year, his skills and overall personality have significantly improved. He is now a cricket encyclopedia. All the credit goes to Derek and the coaches.
waste of money and time . keep away kids from coach Vishy he is a politician not a Coach or cricketer!! only he select and give a opportunity to his friends kid , under his supervision team keep losing a tournament . Derek is good coach but he is not focused all the areas , he should , this is his Club .
If you don't want to waste your hard earned money, please do proper research before signing up for OCA! Our experience with OCA was a nightmare!! does not deserve a single star! My son who is absolutely passionate about cricket chose to go do community hours in a nursing home than continuing with them! They can’t stand to hear the truth, threaten parent to go legal & they also make sure to get someone write an essay for them!! They also make sure to remove bad reviews from the website so that parents don’t get to know the truth!
